The Hampta Pass, a small corridor between Lahaul’s Chandra valley and the Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh, lies at an elevation of 4,270m on the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. The Hampta Pass trek will take you to the valley of wildflowers, alpine meadows of conifer forests, rock walls, amazing waterfalls, pristine snow-white glaciers, tiny lakes, high peaks, and a lot more. The nearest hub is Manali, in Himachal Pradesh. The trek is a moderate trek that will take you to the magnificent foothills of the Pir Panjal range and the Great Himalayas. The trail offers different shades of nature, from green oak & pine forests to the captivating views of Indrasan and Deo Tibba mountains.

Hampta Pass Trek starts from Manali And from Manali to Jobri – a small hamlet in Kullu valley. It is a moderate trek of 35km and is preferred by beginners as well as experienced trekkers. The trek will move forward from Jobra by a walk to Chika Basecamp. Chika Basecamp is the starting point of Hampta Pass and you will trek from here to Balu ka Ghera ( also known as Heaps of sand) it is said that brown bear hibernates at Balu ka Ghera in winters. Hampta Pass at 3,600m, the place offers the breathtaking views of the magnificent Dauladhar Ranges. You will cross some amazing wooden bridges and Rani Nallah during the trek.

Further, this trek will take towards Chandratal Lake – a beautiful lake in the Lahaul and Spiti Valley. The lake is perched at an altitude of about 4,300m in the Himalayas. Chandratal Lake is a tourist destination for trekkers and campers.

There are vast meadows on the banks of the lake. In Springtime, the meadows are carpeted with hundreds of varieties of wildflowers.

  • The first stop will be at Siaghoru, where you will witness snow patched carpets and the Deo Tibet Peak. It is one of the favorite campsites of trekkers. Camping near a quiet stream and witness wildflowers alongside the river. The trail will descend towards Chatru- a small village in Spiti Valley lies at an altitude around 3560m. Chatru is a camping site and consensus of three passes Hampta, Rohtang, and Spiti. You will rest here at camps and have refreshments. The trek from Chatru will take you to the crystal clear Chandratal Lake at 4,270m. The flowing streams, a range of vibrant flowers offer great delight and peace. The high altitude alpine lake will offer great panoramic views of Lahaul with snow-clad peaks of Minar, Talagiri, Tara Pahar, and Mulkila, all of which are over 6000 meters high in the sky.
  • The best time to visit the Hampta Pass is from June to August and from September to October. There are chances to witness heavy snowfall and rainfall in the monsoon season. The temperature ranges from June to August are 20 degrees to 15 degrees during the day time and 7 degrees to -2 degrees in the night time. In September to October, the temperature ranges 15 to 10 degrees during the day time and 5 to -5 degrees in the night.
  • Hampta Pass Trek will start from places like Manali, Naggar, and Dharamshala. Manali is easily accessible by rail, road, and airways. It is well connected to cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport, which is located at a distance of 52 km from Manali.
  • The nearest railway station is the Joginder Nagar railway station which is at a distance of 166 km from Manali. You can take a bus or taxi to reach the beautiful destination.
